Weeknight One-Design Racing
J/22 Fleet Racing 2012
Sail Newport J/22's are available to race in a variety of racing disciplines. Each are great opportunities to participate in an organized and competitive evening fleet and enjoy the benefits of sailing and racing-without the headaches of boat ownership!
As with any Sail Newport rental, the skipper (or anyone who will be driving on a race night) must take a check-out as well as a short, written, rules test before the first night of racing, which is included in the charter fee.
On Tuesday, May 29th and Wednesday, May 30th, sailors registered for a boat for either series will be able to come down for their check-out, a practice sail, and there will be a Rules Chalk Talk beginning at 7 pm each evening which all participants are encouraged to attend.
Spinnaker Racing
Tuesday Night is Spinnaker Fleet Racing Night for the Sail Newport Fleet. Racing is held every Tuesday, beginning June 3rd and running through to August 28th. One to three races around the "cans" are typically held each night, weather permitting.
Newport YC hosts the racing with the start in the waters between Rose and Goat Islands. Racing commences with the first warning at 1800 hours. The J/22 fleet is usually the 2nd start of the night.
The rates to charter a boat for the Tuesday night series are: $650. Tuesday night charters including an Open Card* are $1020 for a boat for the spinnaker series.

Non-Spinnaker Racing
Wednesday Night is Non-Spinnaker Fleet Racing Night for the Sail Newport Fleet. Racing is held every Wednesday, beginning June 6th and running through to August. 29th. One to three races around the "cans" are typically held each night, weather permitting.
Newport YC hosts the racing with the start in the waters between Rose and Goat Islands. Racing commences with the first warning at 1800 hours.
The rates to charter a boat for the Wednesday night series are: $585 member. Wednesday night charter including an Open Card* are $955 for a boat for the series.

The online charter application to reserve a Sail Newport J/22 for either series is below. Boats are available on a first come, first serve basis. There are eleven boats available for each series. If twelve or thirteen teams indicate interest in either series, a rotation will be set up such that each team will race 11 of 13 nights (and the charter rates will be adjusted accordingly). If more than 13 teams indicate interest, a drawing for the 13 spots will be held.

*The "Open Card" allows the holder to use the Sail Newport Fleet of J/22s and Rhodes 19s anytime during the course of the season that boats are available for a onetime fee. Boats may be reserved in advance during any rental period except for the afternoon 12:30 - 3:30 pm rental block on Saturdays and Sundays. If a boat is available at the start of one of those two rental blocks, an Open Card holder may use it, they just cannot displace a fee paying customer.
