Regatta Wrap Up
Just like the Chamber of Commerce would promise, the weekend in Newport for 60 Opti sailors produced two nearly ideal days of sailing conditions for the competitors. Temperatures hovered in the 60s and 70s with steady sea breezes in the 10-15 knot range.
Four races were completed each day giving all sailors one throw-out in a series of seven.
Marlena Fauer from Southhampton YC nailed an incredible regatta performance winning not only her fleet but the overall first place trophy. Mitchell Kiss, the top competitor in the White Fleet, joined Christopher Price from CYC (Long Island) as the Blue Fleet victor on the podium with Marlena.
Also, Local sailors Brendan Faria of ILYC and Team Fast finished 7th overall and Dan Nickerson of Team Fast finished 11th. Natalie Salk of Jamestown was the top performing local girl.
