 2004 Sail Newport Match Race Series Monday Night Match Racing in Newport  The following is an outline of the 2004 proposed Match Race Series in our BRAND NEW J/22's.   Here is the theory 12 Teams split into 2 groups of 6. $120 per Series (Sail Newport Member) or $180 (Non Member). The idea is to have 6 teams per night have a round robin among those teams. This will mean a total of 5 Flights per night. This is about our average last year when we had any breeze at all. Makeups would be scheduled on other days or nights to complete the round robins. Each Team would be required to sign up for 1 RC night and 1 Umpire Night as part of the series schedule.  Match Racing Plan 2004 You can do as many series as you want or as few as you want. Each Series is guaranteed 2 nights and possibly a third if you make it to the finals of that series. (5 Total Nights per Series). Group A sails first Monday and completes full round robin. Group B Sails second Monday and completes full round robin. Repeat for 3rd and 4th Monday Night. The race pairings are in the spreadsheet. 1 point for a win, 0 for a loss. Top 4 race on 5th Monday Night (or day, see sched) to determine the winner of Series #1. Repeat that formula 4 times through the summer. Each Night First Gun at 5:20 PM Schedule: Introduction to the New Boats, Waiver Signing Day and Intro to Sail Newport Match Race Program: Sunday April 25th at 1PM. Series #1 May 3rd - May 17th. Finals: Mem. Day Monday at 3PM. Series #2 June 7th - June 28th. Finals: July 5th 4PM. Series #3 July 12th - August 2nd. Finals: August 9th 4PM. Series #4 August 16th - September 9th. (no labor day race) Finals Boatshow Sunday at 2PM. Finals Weekend: Top 18 Ranked Teams plus 2 invited teams: Columbus Day Sat, Sun, Mon. October 9, 10, 11 1PM Start. Too Much, Too Little? It will be a heck of a lot simpler and all get the same amount of racing over the course of a month. |
