There are several different builders of class-legal C420s: Laser Performance and Performance Sailcraft 2000 are the two US builders. New boats can be found at dealers like the Laser Performance Sailing Center, Portsmouth, RI (401-683-0800) and Sturgis Boatworks (508-778-9187) in W. Yarmouth, MA. Both are great sources of information on used and new C420 gear and equipment. Other good sources for used boats include word-of-mouth, classified ads, and YC/Jr. Program bulletin boards. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about purchasing a boat, what “extras” are worth getting right away, and what can be purchased later, sails, spars and blades. The process can seem daunting, particularly until you are familiar with the equipment and the language, but we’re ready to help!
Understanding Regatta Fees and Membership Requirements: ART fees do not include regatta entry fees which are typically paid at the time of registering for the event. Membership Fees: NBYA membership is required of all ART participants. C420 Class Association and US SAILING memberships are mandatory for only certain regattas. NBYA (For more information on NBYA click here.): The Narragansett Bay Yachting Association is the organizing authority for sailing in the Bay. NBYA helps organize and manage activities and events on a broad scale, including regattas. NBYA Junior Membership ($35) is required of every youth sailor participating in the NBYA Junior Weekend Regattas, Junior Race Week, and NBYA Team Racing (as well as many other events). C420 Class Association (For More Infromation on the C420 Assoc. click here.): The C420 Association is the national class association and is TOTALLY worth joining. Many regattas require C420 membership, and while not mandatory for our program, it is well worth the investment! They publishe an awesome quarterly magazine for C420 sailors that contains great information on rigging and go fast tips, regatta schedules and more. Membership in C420 Assoc. is required for sanctioned events like the North American Championships. US SAILING (For More Infromation on the US Sailing Assoc. click here.): US SAILING is the national governing body for the sport of sailing in the US. US SAILING Junior Membership ($12) is required of sailors participating in Junior Race Week/Junior Olympic Festival. Benefits also include a years subscription to the quarterly magazine Junior Sailor, and a copy of the Racing Rules of Sailing. Further information, membership applications for NBYA/US SAILING/C420 Assoc. and regatta registration packets will be mailed to ART participants after their completed and paid registration has been received.
