07 REGATTA REPORT
Woiee!! Today was one of the most perfect sailing days in recent memory for the 75-boat Fleet that circumnavigated Conanicut Island on Narragansett Bay. A tremendous turnout for the "Last Blast of the Season" made for a spectacular sight during the 18 plus-mile race. The Queen Mary II was in town for a Newport visit and she provided a dramatic backdrop for the brilliantly sunny day.

Conditions at the start included a steady 15 - 18 knot westerly. The four PHRF classes and Multi-Hull entrants were sent clockwise around the island after a majestic downwind start.

As the boats sailed around Beavertail and up the West side of Jamestown, the breeze and tide came together, the wind diminshed to 12 -14 knots creating perfect flat water and smooth sailing.

The fastest monohull was Tim Woodhouse's "Rumours" which made it around the Island to the finish line in Newport Harbor in just over 3 hours. Woodhouse's best decision was to go inside Dutch Harbor and hug the coast. Tacking close up the East Shore kept "Rumours" out of the worst of the ebbing tide. She won her division handily.

The Multi-Hull Class boats were all thrilled with as they are used to warp-speed racing. Also small fleet of J22s race around Gould Island for a One-Design contest. For the second year in a row, Blind sailor Matt Chao and his team took first place.
