Brooke Gonzalez Advanced Racing Clinic
The Brooke Gonzalez (aka the "BEG") Advanced Racing Clinic

THE APPLICATION PERIOD FOR THE 2012 CLINIC IS NOW CLOSED. Decisions will be made, and sailors who applied will be notified as to their status on Sunday, April 15th, 2012.
Sail Newport's 2012 Brooke Gonzalez Advanced Racing Clinic will be held for the 11th year, Thursday June 14th (mid-afternoon/report day) through Sunday, June 17th. Come learn from the best coaches and to jump start your summer!
In 2001, Sail Newport and the family of Brooke Emmens Gonzalez embarked on a plan to create a high end clinic on the East Coast. We enjoy a reputation for the highest quality coaching, fabulous hospitality, a range of sailing conditions from flat tidal waters to choppy Bay and open ocean, and remarkable guest speakers.
This clinic is held in Laser Full Rig, Laser Radial, International 420's, and Club 420's. It is a BRING YOUR OWN BOAT Clinic, although limited charter boats are available.
Applicants 14 - 18 years of age are selected based upon their resume. This is a very intense, high level program. Participantsion will be limited. Selection is by application and acceptance only.
2012 Program:
· The 3 ½ day program will consist of lectures and on-the-water drills with an emphasis on boat handling technique, boatspeed and strategy. This will be combined with information on what it takes to reach your goals in sailing.
On Saturday Night of the clinic, sailors are treated to a speaker from the highest levels of the sport. Prior speakers have included: Gary Jobson, Dean Brenner, 470 Gold Medalist Kevin Burnham, Olympic Team Members, Isabelle Kinsolving, Katie McDowell, America's Cup veteran and current Volvo Race Competitor Ken Read and US Olympic Team Coach Skip Whyte.
The most important thing to remember is that when you get here at Sail Newport, there will be no reason to leave. Showers, food, spare parts, etc. will be here. Even locals will be required to stay on site for the full day. Our coaches want your undivided attention. This is not prison, but we expect full commitment from you, the sailor athlete!
"These youth sailors ages receive the highest level coaching from some of the best trapeze dinghy and Laser coaches in the country" says Brad Read, Executive Director of Sail Newport. "Emphasis is on speed producing factors and techniques that work on long courses where speed is at a premium."
· Application deadline is April 1, and participants accepted into the BEG Clinic will be contacted by April 15th. Selected participants will receive an online link to Sail Newport’s registration and payment gateway. At that time, you will be able to view this year’s coach list, updated schedules and charterboat information.
· Entry Fees: $488 per sailor. Cost includes: Housing, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Friday Saturday and Sunday, t-shirt, highest quality coaching and hand-outs.

Sail Newport, Newport, RI: Brooke Gonzalez Scholarship Fund (Est. 1998)
The Brooke Gonzalez Fund was established to remember a fine young woman, racer and sailor. Her presence at Sail Newport in the summer of 1997 provided inspiration for the children in the Sail Newport Sailing Programs. These children were able to observe firsthand, how much time, dedication, and effort it takes to become a world class competitor. The income from the Brooke Gonzalez fund is used by Sail Newport to assist small boat sailors less than 24 years of age to attend small boat National or World Championships.
